The OUTLOUD! Painters

If you ask me what I came to do in this world, I, an artist, I will answer you:  I am here to live out loud.”  Emile Zola, 186

In November 2006 the Arts Club of Washington hosted the OUTLOUD! painters.  It was the group’s fourth major show, the first two having been at Glen Echo’s Yellow Barn, and the third at Touchstone Gallery.  Some painters who exhibit works together don’t paint together; however, this group has drawn strength and inspiration from the synergy of painting together at least once a week over many years.

“We feel that our group resembles a band or an orchestra.  We hear one another’s music as we paint.  Each has a different instrument or sound, but we play together out loud.” explained a member of the group.

Members of this small group have exhibited widely nationally and internationally.  Each member is a strong painter in his or her own right, but all share a common vision.  All are informed by the discoveries of abstract expressionism, and all paint non-objectively.
Several are art instructors or therapists as well.  All have benefited from the direction and suggestions of painter and teacher, Helen Corning.

More than other types of art, non-representative painting depends on the eye of the beholder, i.e. what the viewer brings to it.  OUTLOUD! hopes to make original, non-representational art more accessible and appreciated by viewers.  For additional information:  joannct@verizon.net.
